Essential Functions

  •  Provides treatment to patients under the direction of the occupational therapist.
  •  Provides assistance to the occupational therapist during tests, evaluations and complex treatment procedures.
  •  Assures the safety, comfort and well being of assigned patients.
  •  Communicates treatment plans and goals to the patent in accordance to department standards.
  •  Maintains knowledge of all occupational therapy patient care programs according to established procedures.
  •  Identifies priorities and outcomes for intervention under the direction of the occupational therapist.
  •  Facilitates the application of appropriate theories of rehabilitation care to patients.
  •  Be aware of medical problems that may preclude patient treatment and warrant seeking assistance from proper personnel, lead therapist, nursing and physician.
  •  Documents treatment according to established policies and procedures after the initial evaluation has been completed.
  •  Records all patient related charges in accordance with the policies and procedures of the department.
  •  May need to assist OPT supervisor with ordering supplies for the department
  •  Provides technical education and support in the explanation of treatment to patient, family, new employees, and other La Posada personnel as directed by the supervisor or occupational therapist.
  •  Complies with quality assurance, safety, infection control and emergency procedures consistent with La Posada policy.
  •  Assembles and prepares equipment and accessories for treatment procedures.
  •  Helps train new department employees in compliance with department policies and procedures.
  •  Be aware of the financial impact of the therapy service delivery and follow department policy and procedures with regard to service delivery under Medicare guidelines and other contractual agreements.
  •  Uses supplies in a responsible manner to promote patient care.

Financial Responsibility

  •  Be aware of the financial impact of the therapy service delivery and follow department policy and procedure with regard to service delivery under Medicare guidelines and other contractual agreements.
  •  Follow the department policy and procedure with regard to productivity standards and communicate with the department manager when staffing levels are inappropriate to meet patient needs.
  •  Maintain patient charge records in accordance with the department’s policy and procedures.

Accountability

  •  To patients under the care of the Occupational Therapy department.
  •  To family members to communicate patient goals, progress and discharge plans.
  •  To La Posada to provide high quality therapy in a fiscally responsible manner.
  •  To self to continue to grow within the profession of Occupational Therapy.

Equipment Used

  •  Wheelchairs
  •  Adaptive/assistive devices used for ambulation.
  •  Weights and exercise equipment.
  •  Modality equipment (including but not limited to) heat modalities, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound.
  •  Computers and related computer software.
  •  Oxygen, oxygen tank regulators and pulse oximeter.

Skills and Abilities

Education: Graduate of a recognized school/program for  Occupational Therapy Assistants. 

Certifications & Licenses: Hold a current certification by the American Occupational Therapy Association Board.  Licensed in the State of Arizona as a OTA.
