Certified Caregiver - Per Diem
Position Summary,
A Caregiver provides basic patient care services and assistance with daily living activities under the direction of the nursing staff. Caregivers perform duties such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, using the toilet, changing linens, and some housekeeping. They may transfer or transport residents and assist with other tasks, such as recreational and social activities. Caregivers administer medications and treatments. In addition, they may perform administrative tasks such as answering phones and greeting visitors, and provide documentation of care and assistance.
Essential Functions
- Performs and coordinates personal care activities including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, skin care/nail care, oral hygiene, shaving, dressing, and others as directed/requested.
- Performs and coordinates services essential to health care at home, including laundry and ironing, changing/laundering bed linens, light housekeeping, and other services as offered.
- Initiates and participates in leisure activities provided for residents. Encourages residents to socialize and participate in planned activities or programs and to develop friendships with other residents.
- Administers and coordinates the passing of medications under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor (under state regulations and facility policy).
- Observes and documents the health and emotional condition of each resident, promptly reporting all changes to the Supervisor. Regularly reviews each resident's service plan.
- Coordinates and participates in the prompt and courteous response to resident requests for assistance, including resident call systems, pendants and other devices.
- Promotes a safe environment for residents by observing infection control practices, following facility guidelines, and reporting unsafe situations to the Supervisor.
- Assists and coordinates in the preparation and transportation of residents for appointments and social programs.
- Assists and coordinates with moving and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.
- Assist and coordinate with helping residents to walk with or without self-help devices as instructed.
- Assists residents in eating or drinking as needed.
- Routinely checks on each resident at shift change and as directed at other times to ensure that his/her personal care needs are being met by his/her wishes and advises the Supervisor accordingly.
- Coordinate and monitor special resident services offered by the facility.
- Attend and participate in in-services as required by federal, state, and La Posada requirements.
- Maintain current qualifications as a certified caregiver, including fingerprint clearance, annual TB clearance, CPR, and 1st aid certification.
- Maintain a work environment that is clean and presents a professional image.
- Follows established safety precautions in the performance of all duties.
