Job Description

The Development Specialist coordinates grant writing, foundation research, works with campus public relations and marketing in order to support the mission of the campus and Community Services by building relationships and obtaining funding through grants, foundations and other sources.

Grant Writing/Foundation Research

  • Coordinate grant activity by researching potential foundation and business grant sources and by maintaining grant data base.
  • Recommend strategies and support activities for building relationships with key individuals from targeted foundations and corporate funding organizations.
  • Write grant drafts materials for review by director; complete on-line grant forms; online submission verification; maintain record of grant requests and receipts.
  • Match prospective foundations and businesses with requests
  • Develop and maintain annual grant calendar.
  • Communicate grant activity with Dir. of HCS and Posada Foundation.
  • Format and write selected proposals as directed.
  • Ensure appropriate reporting and stewardship.

Public Relations and Marketing in coordination with Campus Marketing team

  • Position requires staff to work in conjunction with campus marketing staff to ensure marketing and promotions follow campus guidelines and marketing plans. Materials and information may be reviewed by campus marketing to ensure quality; style and message are in alignment with overall campus strategy.
  • Work with Campus marketing staff and Community Services team to develop marketing plan to increase program utilization and donations.
  • Assist in Coordination of public relations and marketing/advertising efforts with La Posada Marketing Department when necessary/appropriate.
  • Assist campus marketing to place advertising for community services (print and radio).
  • Market community services to increase visibility/accessibility of programs, volunteer activity, and annual and planned gifts.
  • Assist and maintain email marketing to strengthen relationship with donors, volunteers, and clients.
  • Prepare newsletters, departmental annual report and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assist in the coordination of news releases and media relations. Bring human interest stories and activities to the community through website, email marketing and local media.
  • Assist with developing fund raising brochures and direct mail appeals.
  • Assist in the creation, ordering and stock community service collateral materials.
  • Stock, staff booth/tables and distribute materials for events and special activities.
  • Assist in web site updates on behalf of Community Services.
  • Monitor performance of marketing strategies, review with Director Community Services, Marketing Director and HCS Director and make recommendations for improvements.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in related field.: Preferred

Experience:

  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in grant writing, donor cultivation, solicitation, and recognition in meeting fund development goals.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in media relations, marketing and advertising. Specific experience in web-based and/or email marketing will be helpful.
  • Any combination of knowledge and experience deemed acceptable by human resources.

Computer Skills:

  • Ability to work with database and word processing software.
