La Posada is currently seeking an enthusiastic and dependable full-time Lead Teacher. 

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Director and the Director of Community Services, the Lead Teacher will be responsible for the general supervision and management of the enrolled children  in the Los Niños del Valle programs.

 Essential Functions

  •  Maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Provide an enriched environment which includes well planned center activities, plentiful materials, and materials which are rotated on a regular basis to maintain interest
  • Assign duties to Teacher Aides as needed (i.e. bulletin boards, helper board name tags)
  • Analyze classroom materials, etc. for multicultural aspects
  • Work with assigned staff to help parents fulfill workshare credits
  • Assist the children during all mealtimes. Provide the best possible environment with the goal to improve and maintain the health and nutritional status of each child, promoting the development of good eating habits.
  • Consider individual children in relationship to their cultural and socio-economic background and treat children with dignity and respect.
  • Assist the Assistant Director in planned intergenerational activities, focusing on building relationships across the ages.
  • Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
  • Plan and implement the assessment procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children.
  • Collaborate with Teacher Aides to establish classroom rules
  • Key person for difficult situations - may refer to director if needed
  • Daily reports to parents - may include both written and/or verbal
  • Schedule in-person or phone conferences with Assistant Director or Director to discuss concerns and assessments
  • Collect weekly lesson plans, type, and post on bulletin board.  Check to see if lesson plans include all curriculum during the month and are developmentally appropriate
  • Serve as trainer for newly assigned staff providing orientation and assistance during early assignments.
  • Serve as trainer and mentor for newly assigned volunteers providing orientation and assistance as needed.
  • Keeps informed of research and new developments in the field of early childhood development, participates in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth.
  • Be familiar with Child Care Licensing requirements and assure that they are followed in the classroom and on the playground.
  • Stay up to date in required yearly trainings.

Skills and Abilities
 

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
     
  • Experience: 1-year past experience in the field of early childhood development.  Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Certifications & Licenses: CPR, First Aide or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, Fingerprint Clearance card required. 
  • Computer skills: Must be able to operate common office equipment and have basic word processing skills.
